Bulli Shire Council first met on 8 December 1906.  The Council met in local buildings until the Shire Chambers were opened on 1 June 1929.  The building was designed by Sydney architects, Karberry and Chard.  William John Williams of Thirroul built the chambers in 1928.  The City of Greater Wollongong was formed in 1947 by the amalgamation of four local councils. Te building ceased to be used for council meetings.  From 1948 to 2009,  and part of the building housed the BUlli Public Library.  The building is now used as a community centre.
