James Shoobert opened a mine on his property in 1848 as the Albert Mine. The mine and his property was sold subsequently to Henry Osborne. In 1857, Osborne and William Robson opened new working called the Osborne Wallsend Mine. Ebenezer Vickery and Sons acquired the mine in 1899. The company sold toAustralian Iron and Steel in 1937. In 1954 a tunnel linked the Mt Keira and Mt Kembla mines. The tunnel and the mine was named Kemira. MIning ceased in 1991.
