Our esteemed member, Kathleen lsabell Condell died on Tuesday, 18 June 2013. Kath joined the Society in l97l and she was a dedicated and constant supporter for more than 40 vears. As the Society's secretary, Kath took her duties very seriously and missed meetings only on rare occasions. She participated in Society excursions until she moved from Wollongong to Villa Maria at Unanderra.
Kath was an unassuming and independent person who quietly got on with the job. Even in the worst of weather Kath would walk to and from her home at 38 Market St to the Museum. Although appreciative of a lift home, Kath never expected one. She would try to slip away at the end of a meeting rather than impose on anyone.
Kath was born on 4 April 1923 at Wagga Wagga to Norman Condell and Kathleen Mason. She was the eldest of seven children in a devout Roman Catholic family. Her sister, Patricia became a member of the Little Company of Mary as Sister Austn. Kath's father was a farmer at Downside north of Wagga Wagga. Kath attended St Mary's Convent School and later Mt Erin High School both run by the Presentation Sisters which was founded in Ireland. After leaving school, Kath became a teacher and taught in Catholic schools at Wagga Wagga, Hillston and Wollongong. Kath never married.
Her dedication to the Society was recognised in 2004 when she was made a life member. The Society was extremely fortunate to have had Cath as an active member for so long. She will be remembered and missed by her may friends.
