FRANKS, Pat

Patricia Lesley Franks [nee Lowe]

Pat Franks was a long-term councillor on the Wollongong City Council. She was well known in the local community before her election to Council.  Throughout her term as a councillor, Pat was frequently controversial and took on issues that others were unwilling to confront.  Pat was active in social and community activities including the Festival of Wollongong.

She compered fashion shows at the David Jones store on the corner of Church and Crown St, Wollongong for many years.  In the 1960s, Pat opened a deportment school with Judy Russell.

Pat was born in 1930 and married Ron Franks in 1949.  She was diagnosed with cancer which resulted in her death on 19 January 2001. The entry gates to Gleniffer Brae were dedicated to her memory in December 2001.
