CORDEAUX, CATARACT & KENTISH CREEK LOCATIONS

From the 1840s, settlers bagan taking up land west of the Illwarra Escarpment behind Mt Kembla and Mt Keira.  The area was watered by a network of creeks but the fertility of the soil varied.  Life was characterised by hard-work, constant economy and isolation.  From 1901, the NSW Government began resuming land for the Cataract and Cordeaux dams to provide water for the Sydney metropolis. By 2007, all of the private holdings had been either resumed or purchased.

In 1978, the Scouts Association received land at Cataract Dam.
